Poulan ignition coil for Husqvarna 235R
Serial number 530 039 145
Also has 5354A written on it
Been quoted anywhere between $130 and $180 AU for it.
Found some for $32 US on the net, and am waiting to hear back regarding shipping costs.
If anyone has one laying around or knows where I can get one cheap please let me know.
Thanks.

| I think before you go paying for a new one, you should try mounting up a coil from one of your other engines. Chances are you won't find a direct bolt-on, but it wont be too hard to make up an adaptor. |

If I can get one for $40-$60 I'll consider getting a new one.
I had a look at a couple of the other ones I had laying around in the shed, but they are all off smaller motors though.
Mostly 20-ish to 30 at the most.
Will one off a, say, 25cc motor still work on a 35-40cc motor?
If the contact points aren't in the right spot won't the timing be out, and also a coil from a smaller motor won't pack as big a punch as the one that's supposed to be on there?
Either way, I'll do a bit more hunting around. |

Nope, the amount of 'punch' the coil packs is only determined by how fast the magnets on the flywheel are moving relative to the coil, so you could use a coil off a 25cc with no problems. Adjusting the timing isn't too hard; you can either make the postion of the coil adjustable or remove the keyway from the crankshaft and re-position the flywheel.
But if you can get the part for a good price, go for it That engine is worth it . |

Ah that's interesing.
What I meant regarding the timing was that what if the distance between the contact points on the coil and the ones on the flywheel are different?
I will have a look at the ones I have tomorrow when I have cleaned up in the shed and can actually get to the bench.
Huge mess in there at the moment as I rearranged shed no.2 today and put some shelves up and built a bike rack.
(Those little 3x3metre sheds are a pain to keep organised and easily accesible. )
I'll keep you posted with the progress on the coil.
Thanks for the info mate - you're a right little guru when it comes to 2-strokes.
(And a lot more helpful that other "guru" we both know.... )
[I'll try to use more smilies in my next post.]

Found one that might work.
The top hole is about 5mm off though.
Should be ok to widen that hole as shown in the picture hey?
(Ah damn. Forgot about the smilies... )

Haha yeah that 'guru' is such a wanker. You can so tell its just bsrman14 lol. Its like his 5th account hes created
Hmm getting the spacing right could be tricky, and if you do make a bracket make sure it is very strong or it will bend quickly. And make sure you have the bolts on the coil done up mighty tight! I use a piece of paper folded once and slotted between the magnets and the coil to get the spacing right.
Widening the hole should be ok. You may also have to alter the shape of the two contact points to account for the bigger flywheel. But this isn't completely nessicery. |

Would be funny if it did....

Just a quick note to let you know that I got the motor going with that other coil on it.
Gonna pull it apart and give it a good clean before I try it again.
But it works!

Awsome! Its good to hear you got it running. Did you have to adjust the timing at all?
That engine is going to be a real ripper! Nothing beats a modern-design two stroke engine |

Well, no I just bolted it on.
Did your trick with an A4 paper folded double.
Will keep an eye out for a coil with more similar distance between the contact points.
On the one that's on there now, the points are a bit further apart than on the original one.
So.... it would mean that it's firing a tad too late?
But damn it smoked up the whole backyard, the shed and the driveway
Will drain the old fuel out of it tomorrow hopefully and give it a clean.
There might even be a video of it running over the weekend.
Will see how I go.
