little update
i wanted a proper engine for this bike since my 5hp honda died and has no spark and the valves are screwed up so it backfired all the time. and the current 3.5 hp honda i have has bad piston rings so it smokes alot and has no power or top end. i went to princessauto today which is a store that sells surplus and other stuff like engines and farm stuff. anyways i was going to buy an engine a 6.5 hp honda clone and i got lucky and they had a lightly used one for 120 dollars tax in instead of the regular price of 180 plus tax. so i bought it. i got home and changed the oil and put it on my bike. i started it and gave it full throttle thinking that it wouldnt be much of a difference from my 5hp engine which was good but still a toy. this thing lifted the front wheel on command. i have a ratio of 6.25:1 on the bike and it has too much power. yes i said it, too much, this bike is almost not managable now. im pretty heavy at 250 lbs and i can keep it down my buddy who is under 200 cant give it full throttle right away.
but then after riding it in my complex for abit the throttle stuck when my neighbour was riding it. so it was going over half throttle with full brakes on which usually lock the wheel and he had to jump off the bike because he was going straight into a house. so he jumped off and this bike still accelerating hit the side of the house. luckily there was noone outside or cars anywhere near or it could have turned out real bad. my buddy is fine and the bike has a bent top crown on the fork, a bent front rim and a broken throttle on the bars. so basically nothing that matters is broken. the engine shut off right away thanks to the low oil sensor and after i started right up.
here is a pic of it with the engine on.
doesnt look like much but this thing is not be messed around with. the engine was totally worth the money and now i can climb any hill.
as for the broken stuff i will get a throttle somewhere and a front wheel is 20 dollars and comes with a tire and tube. as for the fork i wanted to make a new one anyways because this one didnt work very well.
but the first thing im going to do to it is install a kill switch on the handle bars, he couldnt reach down to the switch because it was accelerating and its not a good idea to have one hand off when going over speed bumps.
so maybe there will be a video when i get it fixed up. _________________ " ... big whoop you wanna fight about it?" Irish midget from family guy. |

Wow that's crazy.
Shame there's no video of what you just described.
But isn't that always the way?
You build something, fire it up and think "I'll just test it then we'll video it" and crazy stuff ALWAYS happens on that run. |

Pretty tight. Time to get that welder back out and add an exhaust pipe. _________________ Vertical engines run on their side for mowing walls

i ride this thing in sorta residential areas where i wouldnt want it to be too loud. but i think im going to make a new muffler anyways, i got some really nice chrome piping to make it. but first i want to add some fenders for which i finally got some materials and i still have to wait for my throttle to come in. i also scored some folding foot pegs from ebay for $2.75.
hopefully i wont be too busy with school next weekend and will be able to get this thing done and start thinking of a new fork. _________________ " ... big whoop you wanna fight about it?" Irish midget from family guy. |

here are some updates, i have mounted the stock gastank it wouldnt fit before but i pressed the top part down where the gas cap screws on. it doesnt leak and i can easily take it off and put it on. also added an ugly fender and got a new throttle today. tomorow im going to cut the old gas tank mount off and redo the brake, the anchor bolt of the band is in a bad place and it doesnt stop as well as it should. after that i think i will leave it as is until winter break when i will make a new fork and fix the fender and take the swing arm off for paint and put on my snow tire in the back. im looking forward to a working fork with good geometry and to working brakes.
another thing i want to change is the muffler. the stock muffler has a little connecting pipe that goes from the flange to the box itself. this pipe has a 1/2 inch inner diameter instead of the 7/8 which it should be. i will either buy a flange and weld my own pipe on or buy the whole header and seld a sausage muffler on. hopefully the engine will work abit better then.
